First Annual Author's Celebration

A few months have past since school began, and the students all have multiple projects that showcase their hard work and creativity across all subject areas.  Sometimes things get so hectic here at school that unless we have a publishing party with the parents or share our work with another class we forget how much fun it is to just share with each other.  And so our First Annual Author's Celebration was born!

Each of the students selected one project they were most proud of to showcase during the celebration.  The students broke up into small groups and rotated throughout the classroom visiting their peers works stations where they watched movies, read stories together, asked questions about each other's work, talked about why they were proud of their projects, etc.  I think the pictures are proof of how much fun it was and why it's important to slow down and smell the roses so to speak!

Thanksgiving Memories

Leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday the kids began a writing project in between the completion on their personal narratives and our big holiday project. Since they've now learned how to use many of the different apps on their device, I wanted to give them a choice of whether they would like to create an iMovie or an ebook because I believe student choice to be an important part of our classroom. No matter which option they chose, the kids focused on topics such as what they do on Thanksgiving, what they are thankful for, what their favorite Thanksgiving food is, and why they think Thanksgiving is great.  As you can see, the Adventures in Multiage crew has a lot to be thankful for!

Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall... you won't be able to choose a favorite!

A few weeks back the kids explored the four seasons and the adaptations  plants, animals and animals make because of the changing weather. Working together with groups they created posters to depict each of the seasons, on which they were to include at least one animal making an adaptation for their season, show what a tree would look like during it, and depict themselves in outfits that are appropriate to the season.  Using their creativity, they added details about different activities that may occur during winter, spring, summer, and fall.  You may have a favorite season, but it will be hard to choose your favorite among their four posters!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving from our class to you!  As students finished working on their Thanksgiving iMovies and ebooks last week, a few of them took it upon themselves to video the members of our class and what they're thankful for this year.  The resulting video is absolutely adorable and really captures what's important to our first and second graders.  The best part about this was that it was made completely by the kids!  Enjoy!
